Abuse Cycles End with YOU
For years, I was living in a toxic and abusive relationship.
If something in you tightens when you read that, this is for you.
It doesn’t start with violence. It starts with doubt. A low hum in your body that tells you something is off—and a louder voice in your head telling you to ignore it. You’re young. You’re hopeful. You want it to work. So you override yourself. You commit. You build a life. You have children. And you slowly learn how to live while never fully feeling safe.
You notice the clues. Phones turned over. Conversations that don’t include you. Things left open that were never meant to exist. And when you question it, the answer is always delivered with confidence—just enough to make you feel unstable for asking.
If you stayed, it wasn’t because you were weak.
It was because fear is a powerful negotiator.
At some point, the truth becomes undeniable. And by then, you’re tethered—to children, to finances, to a version of yourself that learned how to survive by shrinking. Maybe you left a career. Maybe you were told your options were limited. Maybe you stayed because leaving felt more dangerous than enduring.
You try everything. Therapy. Understanding. Patience. But someone committed to control can perform sincerity endlessly. Charm and deflection become currency. And from the outside, it looks fine. Functional. Even ideal.
Inside, it’s erosion.
You’re minimized. Dismissed. Made to feel like an inconvenience in your own life. You carry the weight and are told you’re the problem. You lose your footing. Then your voice. Then pieces of yourself you don’t realize are gone until they’re missing.
If this sounds familiar, pause here. You’re not imagining it.
The end doesn’t come with relief. It comes with clarity. A moment when the truth finally lines up with what your body has been screaming for years. And once that happens, there is no going back to pretending.
Leaving doesn’t end the battle. Control doesn’t always stop just because you walked away. Healing isn’t clean or polite. But here’s the line in the sand:
The cycle ends with you.
You are not here to spend your life in survival mode. You are not required to keep contorting yourself to accommodate someone else’s narrative. There is a version of you beneath the coping and exhaustion that was never meant to live small.
That version is still here.
If you’re in it, I see you.
If you’re questioning, trust yourself.
If you’re rebuilding, don’t rush—strength returns before peace does.
We don’t always get what we want. Sometimes we get exactly what forces us to rise.
Let go of the story that keeps you tethered. Let go of the guilt that was never yours. Let go of the version of you that survived when you are meant to live.
If this speaks to you, stay. Connect. You don’t have to carry this alone.
Thriving isn’t revenge.
It’s reclamation.
Carry on, warrior.
