Life after Narcissist Abuse

 Life After a Narcissist

There is life after being married to or involved with a narcissist.
But don’t let anyone sell you a seamless fairytale.
When you’re with one, you live on eggshells.
You always feel like something is off, but if you question them or try to talk about the uneasiness they deflect and blame you.
Watching every word.
Every reaction.
Every purchase.
Being too emotional.
Too much.
And somehow, you’re always the unstable one.
Leaving is better.
But don’t confuse leaving with being safe.
Because just when you think you’re safe,
that’s when they strike.
They’re still watching.
Still paying attention.
Not because they care—but because they don’t want you to succeed or be happy.
They don’t care who gets hurt if it means hurting you.
Just when life feels fine.
When things finally quiet down and you think there can’t possibly be another surprise.
They come out of nowhere.
Another blindside.
I wish I could tell you it’s over.
That once you leave, you’re safe.
Maybe you are.
Maybe you’re not.
There will be setbacks.
PTSD.
Moments where your body reacts before your mind catches up.
And eventually, you have to decide the cost—
What price you’re willing to pay to live freely instead of afraid.
So to anyone living in the shadow of emotional or physical abuse by a narcissist:
I’m sorry.
You don’t hear that enough because they make you the problem.
They make you look unstable.
Their emotional vacancy lets them hide in plain sight.
You are not crazy.
You did nothing wrong.
And this is the part no one tells you:
You don’t heal by becoming softer.
You heal by becoming untethered.
By seeing clearly.
By refusing the narrative they wrote for you.
By choosing yourself even when it costs you comfort, certainty, or approval.
That’s not weakness.
That’s survival refined into strength.
That’s the Untethered Warrior.
